Gordhamer, Soren. "5 Ways Social Media is Changing Our Daily Lives." Mashable. n.p. 12 October 2010. Web. 2 February 2014.
This article was written in 2009 and from Mashable.com which is the social media's industry leader in social media and technology news. I found this through specifically searching for articles from 2008-2010 that discusses the past, present and future of social media. I wanted to have a better idea of the historical context regarding social media during the time that the film came out. In order to know why the film was so well received it is important to know the audience's dependency and knowledge of social media at that time. This article accomplished that and so much more. This article is organized in a list format of 5 Ways Social Media is Changing Our Daily Lives, which highlights: where we get our news, how we start and do business, how we meet and stay in touch with people, what we reveal, and what we can influence. The well known tech blogger, Mark Cuban said "For the 1st time ever, more people are finding my blog from Twitter and Facebook referrals than via Google.” This article shows how 2009 was a huge boom for social media, "studies reveal that our time on social networks has nearly tripled in the last year."
Overall, this article provides me with information about social media the year before the film came out. I will further use this to show how Facebook then was still a fresh, innovative, extremely exciting platform and concept. It truly is still a new idea, like Gordhamer stated "Envisioning the global conversation that has developed over the past few years because of tools like Facebook and Twitter might have been unimaginable for most people at the beginning of the decade."
